When you own a dog, you want to take care of their every need, so you can make sure they have the best chance possible at a long and healthy life. You want to feed them quality food, keep them properly vaccinated, give them the proper amount of exercise, have them microchipped, properly train them, keep their nails trimmed, keep their ears clean and properly care for their teeth. When it comes to taking care of your dog's teeth, you want to do the following:

Consider feeding your dog hard food instead of wet food: When you feed your dog hard kibbles instead of wet food, the kibbles help to keep their teeth cleaner. The reason for this is the dry kibbles will scrape against the surface of their teeth in a way that fights against tartar buildup.

Give your dog the right kind of treats: You never want to give your dog too many treats or it can lead to obesity, which can then lead to other types of health problems. Along with giving your dog the right amount of treats, you also want to be sure that you are giving them ones that will help with their teeth. There are a lot of dog treats on the market that are designed to help keep their teeth clean and healthy. The treats will be made of substances that help to remove plaque and tartar. Also, they will have ingredients in them that will help their teeth to stay strong. Treats that are intended to help with a dog's teeth will be marked as such on the packaging.

Brush your dog's teeth regularly: While you may not need to brush your dog's teeth twice a day like you would your own, you should try to brush them once a day. It will be a lot easier for you to do this if you get your dog used to having their teeth brushed while they are puppies. Make sure you are using a tooth brush and tooth paste that is specifically made for dogs.

Have your dog's teeth examined by the vet: When you are taking your dog in to see the vet for their annual exam, you should include a dental exam. The vet will look at their teeth and the rest of their mouth to make sure they are in good condition. If they have dental issues, the vet can take care of them for you.
